Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett defended the player in an interview with the Telegraph, insisting that the Welsh winger would perform much better if his team mates passed the ball to him more often. “Real have to work with Gareth and pass the ball to him more. Give him more of the ball and let him show everybody what he’s good at. He’s going to be the best player at Real Madrid when his team-mates work with him and help him. Hopefully Real will come to terms with this” Barnett insisted.
The agent based his argument on statistics plucked from UEFA in which Bale was the Madrid player to have covered the most ground during last week’s first leg against Juventus, which have Bale covering an average of 113 metres per minute, compared to the 101 metres per minute by Cristiano. “We’ve been vindicated by these statistics and it’s what we’ve been saying all along,” Barnett continued. “It proves that people don’t know what they’re talking about when they criticize Gareth, they are not looking at it properly.
“I’m very upset that professional pundits don’t realize these facts. Instead of criticizing, they should look at it more closely because it’s plain to see when you watch the games” he added.
Barnett also believes that Bale has every right to voice his discontent to the coach but instead, he has decided to keep his head down and continue working. “Most people would have been broken by this but he is determined,” he said. “He could have screamed and shouted or knocked on the manager’s office door but he doesn’t want to upset anyone. I spoke to him on Thursday and while he’s obviously p------ off things aren’t going well he is desperate to get out there again.”
Bale is so strong-willed, says his agent, that he is determined to prove his detractors wrong. “Every top club in the world would want to sign him but he will be at Real Madrid next season,” he said. “There’s no way he is going anywhere in the summer. When we said he always wanted to play for Real, it was 100 per cent true and he’s determined to be a success there”. |
