虽然威尔希尔16岁时便完成了阿森纳成年队首秀，但他的职业生涯一直饱受伤病困扰。如今，外界有传闻称，曼城有意以巨额转会费将他引进，阿森纳名宿斯图尔特-罗布森则给威尔希尔提出建议，他应该考虑离开阿森纳。
之前，阿森纳主帅温格曾表明希望留下威尔希尔的态度，但在图尔特-罗布森看来，在温格的手下，威尔希尔永远不会成为一名全面发展的球员，如果曼城或是切尔西真的对他有意，他应该接受对方的邀请。
“我认为对于威尔希尔而言，现在是离开的正确时机了，如果他去了曼城或者切尔西，他能够学到更多东西。就像在阿森纳学到如何进攻一样，在那里他能够学到足球的防守一面，他会成为一名更好的全能球员。如果能够得到正确的引导，很多年他也都会是英格兰队中最出色的球员之一。”
